London in porcelain: The characters and scenes of Helen Beard
Meet Helen Beard, a potter and artist based in Central London. She makes, draws, designs, and sometimes teaches.
Helen fell in love with clay whilst studying Jewellery Design at the Edinburgh College of Art.
She developed her own method of drawing and painting on to clay, using a form of relief print.
An apprenticeship with the celebrated potter and writer, Edmund de Waal, introduced her to porcelain.
By grouping my pots together, I like to tell a story - creating whimsical scenes that capture the small yet precious moments that make up our daily lives.
I love my local area, it inspires much of my work. There are all sorts of characters who crop up again and again in my sketchbooks and on my pots, from swimmers in the parks to traders at the local markets.
Helen’s 'Dailyware' range is designed and made in England.
Currently we are selling her ceramic tiles and linen tea towels.
